Fall Clothing

The staples of a fall wardrobe

By Anna Lynn C. Sibal © 2006

Fall clothing Fashion can be fickle and trends come and go, changing from season to season. A stylish woman needs to keep herself updated as the trends change and what is considered the “in” look flows with the coming seasons.

Replacing your wardrobe just to keep yourself in pace with these changes every season can be painful to the pocket. While a stylish woman needs to keep herself updated, a woman who is also wise as well as stylish would know that there are classic looks and items that remain constant despite the fickleness of fashion. A woman who is both wise and stylish would invest in these items, wearing them when they are in season and putting them in storage once the season draws to a close.

Just like in any other season, there is a certain look and a certain set of items that never goes out of style whenever autumn comes. So, in case you are looking to buying new items for your wardrobe this fall, you may want to invest on a few staple items.

The fall season is cold, and so fall fashion is all about layering. To keep warm, having a good jacket is very important. You can balance the necessity of having a warm, comfy jacket with your sense of style. Opt for tailored jackets that fit snuggly and flatter your body. Corduroys, tweeds and suede look great for the tailored autumn look.

Sweaters are also a must-have. Turtleneck sweaters and V-neck sweaters are the classics and are great for layering. The best sweaters to have are those made of cotton, cashmere or wool because they let the air circulate through your layers of clothing.

Another essential item is a pair of boots. They keep the feet and the calves snug and comfy, so it would be nice to have a few pairs of them in different styles and heights. Shorter boots are good for pants, while the taller ones always look nice with skirts and dresses.

You may want to choose colors, fabrics and prints that all speak “autumn” to whomever looks at you. The colors of autumn are all warm and earthy. Blacks and navy blues look great regardless of the season, but match it with something like a rich ruby red, or a deep emerald green, you will end up with something fabulous. For the entire fall season, you may want to limit the whites in your outfits to your shirts and blouses.

Discreet menswear prints like checks, plaids and pinstripes are also nice for jackets, blazers, skirts and pants for the fall season. These patterns look extra smashing when paired with something feminine in fall. Take care not to buy the bolder patterns, though. Too much can get tiring to the eyes.

Autumn is also time for the great leather or suede bags, preferably the designer ones. A well-chosen bag in warm earthy tones makes a nice underscore to a marvelous autumn look.

So, ladies, if you are shopping for new items for your fall wardrobe, be a wise spender and invest on these staple items. They never go out of style and you can use them every year.
