Types Of Massage
Swedish massage – This style utilizes long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration, effleurage, and shaking motions.
This technique is specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart.
Shiatsu - This is a traditional healing art from Japan. The word shiatsu means “finger pressure” and it incorporate the use not only of finger pressure, but also thumbs, palms, knees, forearms, elbows and feet. It stimulates the body energy flow by applying pressure to the areas of the meridians, the energy lines.
The session usually takes place on the floor. It begins with gentle stretching and manipulation techniques to help stimulate the movement of energy and to relax the muscles.
Gentle pressure is being applied with their hands, knees, elbow, foot and sometimes their whole body. This technique can help alleviate the pain associated with a wide range of conditions.
Sports massage – This type of massage has been developed for those involved actively in sports or dance in all kinds. It is typically used before, during and after athletic events.
Stone massage – It uses hot or cold stones, usually basalt or marble, to massage the body. An approximate of 84 stones of varying temperatures, sizes and shapes are used to manipulate the musculature and connective tissues.
Reflexology – It is a therapeutic massage of pressure points on the feet to relieve symptoms elsewhere in the body.
This is practiced by the Chinese in the context of the chi. On each spots of the sole corresponds to an internal organ and the applied therapy is healing to one's overall well being.
